My Story
Hello, my name is Debbie Land, owner of Dabblin Deb. I would like to share with you the highlights of my journey of reaching my dream.
Sewing and crocheting has been passed down in my family for generations, most directly to me by my grandmothers, mother and aunts. I started sewing and crocheting when I was around 9 years old and so began my fascination with anything that can be made using fabric, threads and yarn. Everyone has a dream and mine was to make things. Through the years life required me to have a more stable employment, but sewing, crocheting, embroidery, anything with fabrics, needles and threads were always my passion and relaxation.
While you’re here, why don’t I share a funny story with you. When I was 10 or 11 years old, my mother purchased a new sewing machine from our local Singer store. Man, I sure wish I still had that thing! Along with the purchase of that sewing machine they offered 6 weeks of free beginner sewing lessons. So my mother, knowing I was well on my way already, signed me up without hesitation.
When the owner inquired why I needed beginner lessons since I was already making my own clothes…my mother replied,
“…sure she can make anything, but for some reason she doesn’t make a knot to secure the buttons she sews on. Then eventually all of her buttons end up scattered about on the floor and clinking around in the washing machine.”
So of course, knotting buttons was heavily emphasized throughout the full 6 weeks of classes. Luckily for me though, the advanced level seamstresses that were teaching the classes would go on to introduced me to a bundle of advanced tips and tricks that I still carry around with me to this day.
And yep you guessed it, I still collect buttons every chance I get.
Now that I have retired and my children have grown, I’ve decided it’s time for me to put pin to fabric for real and pursue my dream. Each item you see in my shop has been made by me. I plan to continue adding new items as often as I can and open to suggestions as well as helping you with any special orders we can collaborate on together.
The most popular special item currently requested is designing and making “Memory” memorabilia using old clothing, anything fabric.
Thanks for stopping by!
